Rock Challenge!

As you probably know this was the third year that our school entered the Global Rock Challenge with great success. We were given special awards for our concept and also our hair and make-up.  Even better though, over all we came second which is our best yet!  Our theme this year was Art In Motion, inspired by last years poster.

After many weeks of rehearsing and preparation, we were finally ready for the competition.  The day began for most of us with a very early start as we wanted to leave for the theatre at 7:45.  When the set crew had sorted out the sudden problem of actually getting the transportation for the our set, we left school and arrived at The Hexagon on time ,we got our selves seated in auditorium and began the rehearsals.  Luckily, this year our school got to go second, unlike last year when we had to wait until 3:00!  Each school gets 3 run-throughs which takes about 45 minutes, this is just with set and lighting, you only use the costumes in the actual performance.

Whilst other groups are doing their run-throughs the students are allowed to watch.  There were five schools this year, but six entries as one school had two teams.  Unfortunately my dance group (Picasso) were unable to see the last group as we had to go into our changing room with Mrs Russel and finish making our costumes, what a nightmare!

At 5:00 we drew for running order, so poor Mr Stevens and Ms Darke had to go up on stage and pick, literally out of a hat, when we were going to perform.  After much yelling and encouragement we ended up going third, which was where we went last year.

After that all of us went back to the changing room and began the mad task of trying to get ready.  Much glitter, hair-spray and face paint later we were standing on the side of the stage (pom-poms in hand) ready to go on.  The performance went incredibly well with hardly any mistakes, I really feel we deserved to come second.

When we had collected our awards and got changed we had to wait 45 minutes for our coach as we finished a lot earlier than expected.  By the time we got back to school it was 11:30, thank goodness we had the first two lessons off on Tuesday!
