Poem for our Fish

Hammerhead was so fat,

Ron was bright orange,

Monet was paint-splattered,

and Baz was just funny.

You swam in our pond,

and ate all our food,

made babies galore,

how much we loved you!

Now you’re somewhere,

in fishy heaven maybe,

the pond in quite empty,

without you to see.

Four cute little fish,

we’ll miss you a lot,

but we’ll never forget,

all the joy you have bought.

One day some time soon,

there’ll be more fish I bet,

and that miserable heron,

will be caught in a net.

So all the little fishies.

still left in our pond,

will have new friends soon,

and we know they’ll get on.

To Hammerhead, Ron,

Monet and Baz,

you were great little fish,

and for that we are glad.

To Kenny and Tigre,

and little Ginny too,

you’re still in our pond,

and you know we love you!

We were absolutely gutted when we thought our fish had been eaten by a stupid heron, especially Hammerhead, our favourite.  Turned out the next day we'd only lost Baz and Ron - Hammerhead and Monet had been hiding.  I have never been so happy as I spotted that stupid, fat, ugly fish swimming amongst the lily pads; it was like he'd come back from the dead and I cried my eyes out!
